How Students Use Obsidian
Obsidian earns its place in a study workflow because everything is plain text, the notes survive graduation, and links between topics do the revision work that loose files never will. The two downloads here cover the two levels of the problem. The Cornell Notes template handles the single lecture: cue column, notes area and summary band laid out with callouts and one included CSS snippet, no community plugins, plus a Class Notes variant that adds course, professor and date metadata. Three fully worked example notes show the method in use. The Student Vault handles the whole semester: folders per term and course, templates for lecture notes, exam prep and readings, and a Dataview dashboard that pulls every upcoming deadline and exam out of note frontmatter automatically. It comes populated with two example courses and twelve filled notes.
If what you need is a better way to take and review lecture notes, start with Cornell; the summary band forces the review step that makes notes worth keeping. If your real problem is losing track of deadlines across courses, start with the vault, then copy the Cornell templates into it so each course gets both.
New to the app entirely? The getting started guide covers vaults, links and core plugins before any template enters the picture.
